Debby Hopkins is Citi's Chief Innovation Officer and CEO of Citi Ventures. Based in Palo Alto, California, she is responsible for accelerating and scaling innovation across Citi by imagining and developing new products, services, business models and ways of working.
Debby Hopkins is Citi's Chief Innovation Officer and CEO of Citi Ventures. Based in Palo Alto, California, she is responsible for accelerating and scaling innovation across Citi by imagining and developing new products, services, business models and ways of working. Her mandate also includes analyzing market signals and trends to identify new ideas and activities in the fintech space as well as seeking investment opportunities in core domain areas relevant to financial services.
Debby founded, designed and built Citi Ventures from the ground up, recognizing the critical role innovation must play in supporting the broader organization amid accelerating disruptive forces. Debby and her team partner with Citi's businesses and functions throughout the enterprise to shepherd creativity and implement pervasive solutions. They also work to connect Citi with their curated external network of venture capitalists, startups, corporations, government agencies, academic institutions and thought leaders.
Since joining Citi in 2003, Debby has served in a number of executive roles, including Head of Strategy and Mergers & Acquisitions, Chief Operations & Technology Officer, and senior advisor to the Global Investment Bank, a role she continues in today. Prior to Citi, she held senior-level positions at several global firms, including Chief Financial Officer for both Boeing and Lucent Technologies, and Vice President of Finance for General Motors Europe.
Debby serves on the Board of Directors of Qlik Tech, and the Advisory Boards of Stanford's Technology Venture Partners program and Riverwood Capital Partners. From 2000 to 2005 she was a member of the Board of Directors of DuPont. She also serves on the non-profit boards of Citizen Schools, focused on expanding the learning day for low income middle school students, and the Green Music Center, an education and community arts facility associated with Sonoma State University.
Fortune Magazine has twice placed Debby among the top 10 most powerful women in American business, and she was named to the Institutional Investor's Tech 50 list for 2011-14. A sought-after speaker and mentor, Debby holds honorary doctorates from Westminster College and Walsh College.
CHIEF OF STAFF
Tanya joined Citi Ventures in October 2013 as DesignWorks Director, focused on identifying and acting on breakthrough opportunities to radically transform the customer experience in targeted Citigroup businesses. In this role, she seeks to understand and capitalize on disruptive trends in the industry to create new ways of interacting with customers as well as new business models for Citi. She brings 18 years of experience in the Citi Cards business, most recently as Director of Inbound Customer Leveraging, where she and her team drove development and implementation of customer engagement, loyalty and retention strategies in the Customer Service channel. Previously, Tanya worked across a variety of functions and geographies within Citi Cards, including Transaction Services (Las Vegas), Marketing (New York & Kansas City), Customer Service (Toronto & Delaware) and Retention & Cross-Sell (San Francisco). Prior to joining Citi in 1995 as a Global Management Associate, Tanya earned her MBA from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business and her undergraduate degree in French and German from Wellesley College. She now lives in San Francisco with her husband and 2 middle-school-aged daughters. Outside of work, Tanya serves as a board member for Musical Theatre Works, a San Francisco-based non-profit organization providing Broadway theatre experience to K-8 youth.
GLOBAL HEAD, VENTURE INVESTING
Vanessa leads the corporate venturing team in seeking, evaluating, investing in and working with start-ups to commercialize their technologies and drive growth for Citi. She joined Citi Ventures in April 2013 coming to the team from Citi's Consumer Business as Head of North America Marketing for the past three years.
Prior to Citi, Vanessa held a variety of leadership positions in venture capital, media and marketing, product development, and financial services innovation. She was an Entrepreneur-in-Residence with US Venture Partners, leading efforts to evaluate investment opportunities in media, technology and financial services and advising portfolio companies on marketing, distribution and business models. Vanessa spent two years at Yahoo! restructuring B2B marketing and building a global data analytics and insights business as Senior Vice President, North America Marketing and Senior Vice President, Insights, respectively. In addition, Vanessa was a Partner at McKinsey and Co. working in strategy development and organizational change for media, technology and entertainment companies. She co-led the firm's West Coast Organization Practice, including research focused on building teams to support innovation and growth.
A charter member of Teach for America, Vanessa received her BS in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and subsequently returned there for her graduate studies at the Media Lab, earning both her MS and PhD degrees. Vanessa resides in San Francisco with her husband and their son.
Ramneek joined Citi Ventures in April 2011 to lead the strategic investing and incubation activitiesthat will contribute towards Citi's goal of becoming the world's leading digital bank. His focus is primarily on identifying opportunities and investment themes in an increasingly connected world and partnering with leading entrepreneurs as they change the way we interact, consume, purchase and otherwise engage with people, content and businesses around us.
Ramneek brings over a decade of investing and startup experience to the Citi Ventures team. Prior to joining Citi, he was a Partner at Battery Ventures where he helped develop the Online to Offline (O2O) Commerce theme and worked closely with portfolio companies including Groupon. While at Battery, Ramneek also led the India investment efforts for the firm and helped build out an investment team and portfolio in India. He started his professional career as a design engineer at PMC Sierra and also worked on the hardware design team at TiVo.
Ramneek has an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay where he graduated at the top of his class.
Arvind joined Citi Ventures in January of 2011 as a Venture Leader, responsible for leading strategic investments and incubations that are critical for Citi's future growth. He brings ten years of professional investment experience as a Silicon Valley venture capitalist.
Prior to Citi, Arvind was a Managing Director at Menlo Ventures for over nine years. At Menlo, he was an investor in a wide range of companies, including Cavium Networks, Intelligent Results (acquired by First Data), Jobfox, Kazeon (acquired by EMC), NCircle, Nexxo Financial, Solidcore (acquired by McAfee) and Vhayu Technologies (acquired by Thompson Reuters). Arvind started his career as a chip designer working on low power versions of the Pentium Processor® in the Mobile Group at Intel Corporation. Later he became the Program Manager of the Mobile Pentium II® Processor effort and contributed to several successful product launches.
Arvind has an MBA from Harvard, an MS in EE from Case Western Reserve University and his BTech in EE from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He lives in Palo Alto, with his wife and two sons, and enjoys running, reading and photography in his spare time.
Brittany is a dynamic business builder and change leader. She brings 15 years of experience working at the crossroads of innovative new business models and existing legacy systems and thinking. Brittany has identified and invested in disruptive business models and has translated them into existing businesses across different industries and sizes.
Currently, Brittany is a Venture Director at Citi Ventures. Her mandate includes identifying and investing in next generation and disruptive business models in the commerce, payments, financial technology, and digital spaces. Brittany is also implementing these game-changers into the Citi businesses by enhancing existing and creating new business models and processes.
Prior to Citi Ventures, Brittany was Citi's Head of North America Business Development for the Treasury and Trade Services business at Citi. This division has over $8 billion in revenue and focuses on serving the world's largest global corporations and financial institutions in over 100 countries. Brittany's main focus was to impact the bottom line by identifying capabilities and trends that result in new business models and profit pools for Citi. Her responsibilities also included asset monetization, origination and execution of M&A transactions globally, and strategic partnerships. She has spearheaded multiple global transactions including deals in Asia and Latin America, interacting with the C suite of some of the leading innovative companies.
In earlier endeavors, Brittany founded an advisory practice, which she grew exponentially. She focused on individuals and small businesses to ensure they achieved their wealth and other strategic business goals.
Brittany holds an MBA from Cornell University, where she was a Forte Scholar and has a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati.
Basil joined Citi Ventures in January 2011 covering sourcing, due diligence and portfolio management out of the Singapore office. He brings a variety of experience from investment banking, technology product development and entrepreneurship.
Prior to joining Citi Ventures, Basil was with Citi investment banking where he worked on M&A, debt and equity deals in emerging markets, part of which was the first Sukuk issuance in the history of Turkey. Prior to his MBA, he worked in product development at Analog Devices Inc for five years and was part of the team that launched the award-winning Blackfin® line of multimedia processors, the first of its kind to target the automotive industry. Basil started his career as a design engineer along with a team of entrepreneurs at Chinook Communications, a telecom startup that emerged out of MIT.
Basil has an MBA from the Wharton School in finance and entrepreneurial management, an MS in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University, and a BS in EE from the University of Jordan. Basil is an avid traveler and has a taste for ethnic cuisine. He has lived and worked on four continents so far.
Nareg DerManuelian joined Citi Ventures in October 2012, responsible for sourcing and executing venture investments and portfolio management. Nareg brings a diverse background in financial services and investing to his role.
Prior to joining Citi Ventures, Nareg worked in investment banking, most recently at Morgan Stanley. He advised public and private companies on capital structure and strategic matters, including debt and equity financings as well as M&A. He also consulted for Morgan Stanley Venture Partners, evaluating growth equity investments. Nareg began his professional career at Countrywide Financial where he focused on strategic planning and internal consulting.
Nareg has an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a BS from California State University, Northridge.
Maja Lapcevic has joined Citi Ventures investment team based out of New York. She is responsible for partnering with the investment team and driving commercialization efforts in support of the Cards organization. Maja joins Citi Ventures following over 2 years leading Citi's consumer social marketing efforts where she focused on building digital partnerships and scaling Citi's presence on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and You Tube. Prior to Citi, Maja spent 13 years in the branding and digital marketing space heading up Corporate Strategy at a London based mobile marketing startup, InternetQ, where she helped them grow their global presence and get listed on AIM. Prior to InternetQ, Maja founded SML Strategic Media where spent 9 years working with Heads of State and leaders of Fortune 500 companies in over 42 markets around the world leading nation branding initiatives and global brand campaigns. Maja graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in Economics and International Affairs and enjoys running, cooking, and dancing.
Victoria is responsible for investing in and partnering with entrepreneurs developing new technologies and business models that transform the way we do things today. She brings financial services, technology, and investing experience. Victoria covers data & analytics, commerce & payments, security, fintech & financial services, mobile, and enterprise IT.
Prior to Citi Ventures, Victoria was with Core Innovation Capital, where she invested in early stage companies digitizing, democratizing and disrupting financial services. Victoria has consulted for venture funds including NYC Seed and Foundation Capital. She worked on NimbleTV, a digital media streaming startup. Previously, Victoria was a private equity investor at HIG Capital. Victoria began her career at Citi, where she advised companies on capital raising, M&A, joint ventures, and IPOs. Victoria is a Kauffman Fellow. She advises various incubators, and is a board member of InSITE, a program providing education and resources to students interested in entrepreneurship.
Victoria has an MBA from Columbia University, where she graduated with honors, and a BS from Georgetown University, where she graduated magna cum laude. Victoria has traveled to over 35 countries and loves exploring new cultures, foods, and tech innovations around the world. She spends her free time rock climbing.
Tiffany joined Citi from American Express, where she was most recently was on the New Product Development team that built Bluebird by Walmart and American Express. Previously, she started as an analyst in reengineering for the Membership Rewards program. Tiffany also supported the development of the digital strategy integration of charge cards for US consumers.
Tiffany graduated with a BA from Columbia University. She lives in San Francisco and enjoys reading fiction, snowboarding, and being with kids.
GLOBAL HEAD, INNOVATION NETWORK
Debbie Brackeen is Managing Director, Head of Incubation in Citi Ventures. She is responsible for driving growth through innovation by identifying and executing new business incubations in partnership with Citi businesses globally.
Debbie joined Citi from HP, where she was most recently Vice President, Strategic Alliances responsible for HP's worldwide relationship with Adobe. Prior to that Debbie was Vice President, HP Corporate Ventures, where her team incubated disruptive new business opportunities and managed HP's relationship with the startup and VC community.
Debbie is a versatile technology executive with over twenty years
experience at Fortune 500 companies in Silicon Valley including
Apple, Sun, Cadence and eBay. She has founded new ventures within
large companies, and held executive roles in two VC-backed
Debbie graduated from Stanford University with a BA in American Studies. She serves on the board of directors of the SV Forum, a non-profit that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership around emerging technologies in Silicon Valley, and is an advisor and startup coach with Astia, a global not-for-profit dedicated to the success of women-led, high-growth ventures.
Alex joined Citi Ventures in January of 2013 and is chiefly responsible for designing and deploying an innovation lab network across Citi's global enterprise. This signature initiative is aimed at focusing Citi's businesses on driving new and more disruptive growth in the financial services industry.
Prior to Citi, Alex worked at Monitor Doblin as a Senior Manager and Innovation Strategist in the San Francisco office. As a design-trained business leader, she used innovation discipline and design thinking to help enterprises plan and execute transformational growth beyond their core businesses. She managed client relationships and led interdisciplinary teams across a variety of innovation projects (strategy setting, new business/offering development, capability building) and was actively involved in developing next generation ideas and methods to better serve the innovation needs of clients.
Alex has a Masters of Design from the Institute of Design in Chicago and her B.A. from Amherst College in Russian Studies. She lives in Palo Alto with her husband and daughter and is an avid hiker and gardener.
Anish joined Citi Ventures as Director of Strategic Partnerships and Programs to lead the development of Citi Venture's innovation ecosystem.
Anish comes most recently from JPMorgan Chase's Digital Customer Experience & Innovation team. As Executive Director of Business Operations & Partnerships he led innovation initiatives, operational planning, new processes, program delivery and vendor strategy/management.
Prior to that Anish held various senior & executive positions at startups such as Egreetings, Geodesic, Lexy pioneering new consumer facing mobile services. He also spent 6 years at Orange, initially building the mobile innovation practice in San Francisco followed by driving strategic partnerships in London as Director of Business Development. Early in his career he was part of the development team that built BofA's first online banking website and first credit card website.
Anish graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BS in Computer Science and French. His interests include soccer, running, movies and travel with his family.
Daniela Busse joined Citi Ventures as Director with Citi's Global Innovation Network, amplifying and accelerating breakthrough innovation in labs across the US, Asia, Israel, and Europe. Her responsibilities includes supporting Citi's Innovation Network with her deep expertise in Design and User Experience Research. Throughout her career, she has been continuously analyzing, envisioning, and redefining the role of technology in people's everyday lives. Through her award-winning work, she has been defining ground-breaking new uses and designs for technologies and devices, led multi-disciplinary UX innovation projects for future roadmap ideation, and researched and incubated breakthrough new product concepts and experiences. Prior to joining Citi she held roles as director-level Design Strategist and Innovation lead at Samsung Research America (SRA), as UX Director/Chief UX Architect in a Hasso Plattner innovation team in SAP's Office of the CEO, and as Design Researcher at Microsoft's Office Design Group in Redmond, WA. She received her Ph.D. in Complex Systems Analysis & Design from Glasgow University's Department of Computing Science, and her summa cum laude degrees in both Computing Science and Psychology also from Glasgow University (Scotland, UK). She holds multiple patents and has published frequently in the field of UX Design, Research, and Innovation.
Jeff joined Citi Ventures in January of 2013 and is chiefly responsible for the operational aspects of the innovation lab network across Citi's global enterprise. He is focused on enabling a connected culture of innovation throughout Citi by creating the systems, capabilities, and processes that support sustainable growth. His goal is to deliver a light, centralized way to amplify and accelerate the work being done in Citi global innovation labs today.
Prior to joining Citi Ventures Jeff spent the previous 8 years in Citi Consumer O&T, most recently as the Application Manager of the Enterprise Fraud Detection initiative. This cross-channel program is noted to be among the most ambitious fraud initiatives in the global marketplace. Prior to Citi, he spent ~6 years working for PeopleSoft (and Oracle post-acquisition) as a senior consultant, providing him with valuable exposure to numerous industries and dynamic environments.
Jeff graduated from the University of Delaware with a BS in Business Administration and enjoys swimming, playing guitar, travelling the world and is a big sports enthusiast.

Busy joined Citi in February, 2011 as Head of Disruptive Incubation. She is responsible for leading large scale, disruptive innovation initiatives in partnership with Citi businesses. Busy brings a unique background to Citi, having been a CEO of a Silicon Valley start-up, a technology investment banker, and a Global 500 senior executive.
Busy has over twenty-five years of experience as an innovative leader. Most recently, she served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at eBay, where she led the development of a new social e-commerce platform. Her investment banking career includes seven years at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse First Boston. She has served as Vice President of Global Brand Management at Gap, Inc., President of Homestead.com (now a division of Intuit), CMO of the global technology group at CSFB and CEO of Alterdot Technology.
Busy has a BA in Economics cum laude from Smith College and an MBA from Stanford. She serves on the Summit Preparatory Charter High School Board and on the President's Advisory Council of Smith College. Busy has studied Improv for four years and loves being a mom.
Chitra joined Citi from American Express, where she was most recently Senior Vice President and head of Strategy for the Enterprise Growth Division. In shaping the strategy for this new division, she helped to identify innovations, technologies, and business models that are most relevant to online and mobile payments as well as digital commerce. She also established strategic relationships with the startup and VC community as part of American Express' outreach efforts in Silicon Valley.
Previously Chitra was a senior member of the Corporate Development group responsible or all types of M&A activities, including acquisitions, investments, joint ventures and divestitures globally across the Company. She completed a number of large strategic transactions at American Express including the sale of American Express Bank, the acquisition of Harbor Payments, the investment in Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), and the spin-off of American Express Financial Advisors. She has also led various business development initiatives and was instrumental in establishing the Corporate Development group at American Express.
Chitra started her career in investment banking at Credit Suisse First Boston focusing on real estate finance and fixed income securities. Chitra graduated from Dartmouth College and has an MBA from Columbia University. She lives with her husband and three children in Scarsdale, NY.
Rei joined Citi Ventures Singapore office in January 2013. She is focused on venture investing and incubation, partnering with internal and external partners to develop and execute innovative ideas at Citi.
She brings to Citi Ventures a wide range of experiences. Rei began her career at Citi in 2005 as part of the Corporate Banking Analyst program in New York. She covered a wide range of clients in the Consumer, Healthcare, and Industrials space and was responsible for executing credit deals for debt-financed transactions, M&A, and refinancing. She also worked in Tokyo as a Relationship Associate in the Financial Institutions Group. Most recently, prior to joining Citi Ventures, she worked in Global Consumer Group India where she led the launch of Citi's first smart banking branch in Mumbai.
She graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with an emphasis on Finance and International Business. Rei was awarded the Merrill Lynch Award for Achievement in Corporate Finance. She also attended the London School of Economics and received her MBA from Kellogg School of Management, specializing in Marketing and Management & Organizations.
Rei is a native of Japan and has lived in 11 cities spanning across 6 countries and remains passionate about exploring new cultures.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
& FINANCE OFFICER
Mauricio serves as the COO and Finance Officer for Citi Ventures since August 2011. He is in charge of strategic planning, investment structuring and portfolio management, and delivery of best-in-class financial and operations infrastructure.
Prior to his current role, Mauricio headed the strategy and restructuring team at Citi Holdings, partnering with the executive team in key business improvement, restructuring and divestiture initiatives. At its peak, Citi Holdings encompassed over $800 billion in assets across 30 countries and 35 businesses. Prior to Citi Holdings, Mauricio was a Director in the Corporate Strategy and Principal M&A group at Citigroup, Inc.
Before joining Citi, Mauricio served as a Vice President in the Investment Banking group at Lehman Brothers in NYC. In this advisory capacity, he executed over $25B in M&A transactions, high-yield financings and equity offerings. Mauricio started his career as a management consultant at Analysis Group, a Boston-based strategy consulting firm advising Fortune 500 companies.
Mauricio received an MBA degree from Harvard Business School and a BA degree with honors in Economics and International Relations from Brown University. Mauricio sits on the Board of the Harvard Business School Latino Alumni Association and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Gail joined Citi Ventures in April of 2012. She is focused on strategic planning, investment structuring and portfolio management, and delivery of best-in-class financial and operations infrastructure.
Prior to joining Citi Ventures, Gail spent six years in senior Strategy roles at Citi. Her roles in Strategy have spanned Citi's entire North America Consumer business, focusing at various times on the Retail Bank, Cards, and Mortgage businesses and allowing her to gain a deep expertise in these areas. In her most recent role, she was a Senior Vice President of Retail Banking strategy, responsible for driving strategic and new business development initiatives.
Before joining Citi, she worked as a Consultant at the Monitor Group, a leading Strategy Consulting firm, and as a Project Manager at Venture Architects, a company that specializes in helping startups raise investment capital.
Gail has BA in Economics and Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. She is an avid traveler, having recently visited her 50th country, and also enjoys hiking, volleyball, and photography.
Ruby joined Citi Ventures in 2012. She is responsible for the financial planning & analysis for Citi Ventures, as well as the financial and legal vehicle management of Citi Ventures' China operation.
Prior to joining Citi Ventures, Ruby worked in the New York offices for Global Consumer Financial Planning & Analysis and North America Cards Securitization. Before that she was the Head of Business Planning for Consumer Finance in Hong Kong. Ruby joined Citi as a Management Associate and has worked on assignments in various countries including Singapore, India and Guam.
Before joining Citi, Ruby was a senior auditor at Arthur Andersen specialized in financial services industry. In this capacity, she had handled the restructuring and IPO of The Bank of China Group in Hong Kong. Ruby was also a senior analyst in a startup corporate finance company focusing on private equity investments in China.
Ruby is a CPA, she holds a MSc degree from the London School of Economics and a BA degree from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. Ruby speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese.
Alice joined Citi Ventures in April 2014. She is responsible for Citi Ventures' financial planning and analysis, controllership and portfolio management functions.
Prior to joining Citi Ventures, Alice completed Citi's Financial Management Associate Program, where she held roles in North America Controllers, Corporate FP&A and Cards FP&A. In these capacities, she gained experience in managing legal entities, coordinating the CCAR process and supporting the business development efforts of Citi Cards. Before joining Citi, she was in fixed income investment management with PIMCO. She also worked in the Rockefeller Foundation, where she participated in the asset allocation, manager due diligence, and liquidity planning of the Foundation's $3 billion endowment.
Alice has an MBA degree from the Wharton School and a BA in Economics from Harvard College.
